Organisation/Reports to ISAF/2007

IFCA Report to ISAF Windsurfing Committee - November 2007

In 2007 IFCA organized the following Championships:

Slalom

IFCA recognized in 2007 for the second year in a row the Eurocup Slalom races organized by ChoppyWater as the European Championships.  Again 3 events counted towards the ranking: Mondial du Vent, Leucate (FRA), Allegro Cup,  Leba (POL) and the IFCA Worlds in Almanarre (FRA).

The Slalom Worlds were held in Almanarre, Hyeres (France) with 54 Men from 3 continents and 14 countries. They battled in 5 slaloms to see Dan Ellis (GBR) taking the World title in front of Bora Kozanoglu (TUR) and Hubert Mokrzynski (POL). The low amounts of competitors were due to a regrettable boycott of some PWA Professional sailors who did not participate in the Slalom Worlds due to lack of prize money.  In the biggest ladies fleet since years we had 16 girls competing with Valerie Ghibaudo (FRA) winning the World Title.

For the first time ever a separate Junior Youth and Masters World Championship was organized in Alacati (TUR). The Master title was won by Markus Poltenstein (AUT) and the Youth title by Gaubert Maxime (FRA).  The first time cooperation with the Starboard Pro Kids Slalom was a fantastic experience with competitors from 9 years old planing, gibing, water starting, sailing in trapeze like their older roll model. Youth teams, youth coaches, national flags in the sails, Quiksilver and Alacati Beach Resort and a lot of enthusiasm were the scene for the re-start for the slalom format with age groups under 13, under 15 and under 17.

In 2006 IFCA introduced the Slalom World Ranking which includes all major slalom events.  In 2007 has proven his success and now includes 338 Men and 42 women Worldwide.  Leading the ranking are Antoine Albeau (FRA 192) in the men fleet and Valerie Ghibaudo (FRA 444) in the ladies fleet.  France on top?

Freestyle

EFPT desired to stop the cooperation with IFCA in 2007 and carry on alone.  Next week IFCA has a meeting with the new management of EFPT in Vienna to re-confirm cooperation from 2008 onwards.  They realized that the support of our International Class was a big asset to them as tour organizer. There was no stand alone World Championship in 2007, for 2008 the negotiations are still going and depending on the outcome of the Vienna Meeting.

For 2008

We have the following championships planned:

-                  Freestyle:

-         Freestyle Europeans with EFPT (tbc);

-         Freestyle Worlds with EFPT (tbc);

-         Freestyle Junior, Youth & Masters Worlds in Bonaire                                Late July

-                  Slalom

-        The Slalom Europeans will be decided by Euro cup slalom tour ;

-        Slalom Europeans with Eurocup

-        Slalom Junior, Youth & Masters Worlds in Torbole (ITA)                            7-14 July

-        The Slalom Worlds Ladies and Men will be in Figuera da Foz (POR)          31/8-6/9
