Today I visited Flecheiras in Ceara Brasil where in less than 3 weeks the IFCA Slalom World Championships 2010 will be held. I had a kind of flash-back. I have seen in my life a lot of windsurfing paradises as Tarifa, El Yaque, Cabarete, Bonaire, Curacao, Icaraizinhio, Alacati . . . from now on for me Flecheiras is one of them!
This fishing village on the north-east coast, 120 km from Fortaleza, has it all: a sheltered bay for easy launching of committee boats, crystal clear water of 27 degrees, wide sandy beaches, palm trees, some waves at the bottom of the bay, pousadas all around, small restaurants and the most important steady side shore wind around 20 knots every day this time of the year. Ideal!!! The local manager of the surf school Robert told me he normally surfs with a 4.7 this time of the year here.
Not more then 20 years ago the church was the biggest building in this fishing town but in recent times the more fortunate Fortalezeans have discovered this paradise, invested and made it a beautiful holiday resort. Only the lack of a highway prevents it being as crowded as Cumbuco for the kiters or Hell Penninsula in the summer.
With the professional help of Arrow Marketing (the organizer of 2 FW Worlds and numerous Grand Prix and Brazilian championships) we are assured of a professional organizer and on top of that a purse of 30.000 dollar prize money.
The event will be based at the east end of the beach in "Solar de Flecheiras" a 20 room pousada/hotel with all what you need for a windsurf holiday including kite and surf school from the Planet group. www.happy-surfpool.com/flecheiras.php
