11 European countries are represented at the IFCA Championships taking place in Texel, joined by young Ethan Aldert Westera from Aruba and Jesper Orth from Australia. Day one saw the completion of one full slalom for all fleets and heats 1-8 sailed for the men in the second slalom round.
On this first day of competition, fourteen knots and big waves on the North Sea led by a northerly wind, made for interesting action! Casper Bouman made the jump of the day, at full speed, he flew more than mast high in the air.
After a hazardous first round the leader is Julien Quentel (FRA 421), training mate of Antoine Albeau. Second and third are Wotjek Brozozowski (POL 1) and Frenchman Nicolas Warembourg (FRA 531). Dutch Casper Bouman, Ben van der Steen and Adriaan van Berge Lille are in the top ten of the provisional standings. The French dominate the youth on the first day with a very strong run.
The international field is strong, but the Dutch are keen for a victory on their own water. Is Peter Volwater capable? Can Casper maintain his place? Perhap the young underdogs will surprise us with their talents? Stay tuned!
