Marcus Poltenstein is Austrian 2009 Champion
Posted On:  13/10/2009 20:07:40
On the 10th and 11th October at the yacht club Weiden, under supervision of Peter Wimmer and DI Karl Berger and their race crew, the Austrian Slalom and Formula Windsurfing Championships were organized. Thirty competitors from 5 nations participated, proving that Windsurfing Austria was moving forward under the new committee.

The wind and weather was perfect on Sunday at the Neusiedler with winds between 13 and 25 knots. Sail sizes for a slalom were 7.0 to 8.6 square meter and 10.7 for the Formula races.

Three Formula races and 6 slaloms were sailed.

The elite Austrian windsurfers including Chris Pressler, Markus Poltenstein, Thomas Bohm and also Manuel Zugsbratl and Stojan Vidarkovic from Slovenia were the top contenders for the event on the beach of Neusiedlersee.

11th of October 2009 will probably long be remembered by Markus Poltenstein because on that day he brought back the Austrian titles to his home club of Weiden.

"It was one of those days we can only dream of: the sun shining in our faces, the wind blowing, the fantastic execution of the action on the water by Peter Wimmer and Karl Berger.  It made us forget the pain in the hands after 9 races in one day!"

Thanks to YCW for letting the windsurfers use the infrastructure of the club. You can find pictures on www.windkraftsport.com/photogallery.php
