Bernd Flessner (GER-16, F2, Neil Pryde), the current Slalom World Champion, is among the competitors. The surfstar from Norderney just won his 14th German Championship. He now wants to complete his "TitleTriple", which includes German-, Slalom World-, and Slalom European Champion. Beside Flessner, another 62 surfers from all over Europe have registered for the event. There are competitors from France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland and other countries who will fight for the title.
In the category Youth (U-20), Slalom Vice World Champion Sebastian Koerdel (GER-220, Lorch, Neil Pryde) from Aach is a strong candidate for the title. His toughest rivals, from the German point of view, are Mick Moennig (GER-610, North) from Berlin and the up-and-coming windsurf talent Jon-Hendrik Frey (GER-894, F2, Loft) from Neuenkirchen, who was already quite successful at the German Windurf Cup.
The European Championship 2009 is part of the big "Windsurfing Festival Kiel/Schoenberger Strand". In addition to the windsurf competitions, a huge supporting programme will entertain all visitors. One highlight will be the Testival of the Surf-Expo with some manufactures from the windsurf industry. Furthermore several funsport activities such as Speedminton invite everyone to have fun. Refreshments will also be served. Different live bands and DJs will provide entertainment and create a nice atmosphere.
