IFCA Slalom Europeans in Kiel/Schoenberger Strand (Germany)
Posted On:  03/08/2009 17:42:27
This year's "IFCA Slalom Youth & Master European Championship" will be held during the "Windsurf Festival Schoenberger Strand" near Kiel in Germany from August 11th to 16th 2009. More than 80 competitors from all over Europe are expected to take part in the categories Youth (U-20) and Master.

Supplemental to the competition a great accompanying programme in terms of a Surf-Expo as well as a Testival, sundry fun-sport-activities and parties are offered directly at the beach.  Beside the international windsurfers from all over Europe, there is also a strong German team that will compete at the European Championship 2009. The clear goal of the German competitors is a place on the podium in both categories, Youth and Master. The latest positive development of the competitors justifies this goal.

From the German perspective, the odds-on favourites in the category Master are the current IFCA Slalom World Champion Bernd Flessner (GER-16, F2, Neil Pryde) from Norderney and Helge Wilkens (GER-63, Starboard, Gun Sails) from Hannover who is German Vice Champion 2009.

In the category Youth (U-20), Slalom Vice World Champion Sebastian Koerdel (GER-220, Lorch, Neil Pryde) from Aach is a strong candidate for the title. His toughest rivals, from the German point of view, are Mick Moennig (GER-610, North) from Berlin and the up-and-coming windsurf talent Jon-Hendrik Frey (GER-894, F2, Loft) from Neuenkirchen, who was already quite successful at the German Windurf Cup.

The competitors will start in the discipline slalom. Because of the close-by pier the visitors will see rapid starts, spectacular manoeuvres and exciting fights at the race marks from a close distance. The competitors will reach a speed of up to 70km/h.

In addition to the IFCA Slalom Europeans there will be the German Windsurf Cup (DWC) straight before the Europeans from August 8th to 10th 2009 at the same venue. Like at all German Windsurf Cups, competitors from foreign countries are not only allowed to participate but even very welcome.  This will give everybody the chance to check out the venue and get used to the conditions.

The German Windsurf Cup is a three discipline series, which includes Racing, Slalom and Wave-Freestyle.  The European Championship 2009 and the German Windsurf Cup are part of the big "Windsurfing Festival Kiel/Schoenberger Strand". In addition to the windsurf competitions, a huge supporting programme will entertain all visitors. One highlight will be the Testival of the Surf-Expo with the major manufacturers from the windsurf industry. Furthermore several funsport activities such as Speedminton and Quattro-Highjump invite everyone to have fun. Refreshments will also be served. Different live bands and DJs will provide entertainment and create a nice atmosphere.
