A large turnout of participants, friends, relatives and companions enjoyed a big welcome cocktail organized by the Hotel Panamericano Bariloche for the 18th Bariloch Classic 2014. This year we had entrants from Argentina, Chile, the Netherlands, Spain and Brazil in the different modes of Windsurf, Kitesurf, SUP, kayaks and sailboats.
The first day of the "Bariloche Classic 2014" brought 20 knots and a 20 degree temperature and the first South American Windsurfing Slalom and Formula competition was under way. The Dutch Ben Van der Steen, Brazilian Isaac Mateus and Argentinian Gonzalo Costa Hoevel demonstrated why they are the elite of world windsurfing. Locals Rafael Vidal Gonzalez and Tomas Dapic showed a very good level, taking advantage of the international experience to improve their own performances.
In the course racing, Manuel Abeleyra from Buenos Aires also demonstrated a high level and there were several very good locals, including Sebastian Johansen, Luciano Stella and Kiki Rodriquez putting in great performances.
Day two of competition brought another day with excellent conditions for windsurfing then day three brought almost nil breeze - definitely a great day for SUP.
That night everyone closed the day with a big party at the Parador de Panoramic Point "Fiat Point" where there was a very nice dinner and dancing to the magical music of DJ Nico Cano.
The final day dawned as forecast, with a east wind and stormy so activity in the water was not possible. The organization decided to close the event and everyone headed for the podium, where prize draws and presentations were made.
The "Bariloche Classic 2014" was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants. This long standing event continues to grow, to meet increasingly important objectives and everyone is eagerly looking forward to the next one.
See you soon friends, thank you for participating and supporting the sport!
